In 2001, The Copenhagen Blues Festival put together ”Ladies sing the Blues” so they could play the festival that year. The festival board wanted to hear ”more women on the Danish blues scene” and the working title for the project was:
Ladies Sing the Blues
A band was born. The festival had joined six people, six musicians that immediately connected in a great musical and personal groove.
Every year since 2001 ”Ladies sing the Blues” has been playing the Copenhagen Blues Festival and each new season is greeted with an eagerness to play.
Besides performances at the blues festival, the band has played a lot of concerts all over Denmark: As warm-up for ”The Crickets” (USA) at Portalen in Greve, and shows at blues and jazz clubs, as well as being a dance band at private parties.
”Ladies sing the Blues” is a band with a broad appeal.
In Sweden, the band has found an audience in Helsingborg at ”The TIVOLI”, at The Uppsala Winter Swing Festival, at the church concert in Simrishamn, and at several jazz and blues clubs.
Comments about Ladies sing the Blues
”...the three power girls go straight to the heart and soul of their audience with guts, humour, imagination and elegance. It can get dirty, but also emotional, all three singers giving solo performances and delivering beautiful vocal harmonies, in a Harlem-like stage and floor show with a carefully chosen repertoire of jazz, soul, gospel and blues classics, always done in fresh and surprising arrangements…”
At the instruments are three rock-solid gentlemen, trying to keep up with the crazy ideas at the front of the stage…
...it takes a man to keep up, but there are three of them…”
